#TeamCISD Families and Community,
If you recall, in the summer of 2022 Governor Abbott mandated the Texas School Safety Center (TXSSC) to perform Intruder Detection Audits (IDA) on all campuses beginning September 12, 2022. The IDA includes three parts on each campus being audited: 1) an inspector will attempt to gain access to the campus at three exterior doors. If access is gained, they are to immediately report to the campus office; if the inspector is questioned by a district staff member while trying to gain access, they must be immediately escorted to the office without trying to gain further access to the building; 2) a check, with an administrator, of all campus exterior doors to see if they are closed and locked; and 3) a check, with an administrator, of eight random campus classroom doors to see if they are closed and locked. IDAs were performed on all of our campuses during the 2023-24 school year and all received an Inspector's report of "No findings documented". When the 88th Texas Legislature met, mandatory IDAs and the reporting of those IDAs to each district's School Safety and Security Committee were incorporated into HB 3 that was signed into law by Governor Abbott. Each Audit is recorded in an IDA Portal that district Superintendents have access to. Once the Audit is complete, the Superintendent is notified that the Audit results are available for viewing in the Portal.
State inspectors have started conducting the 2024-25 IDAs. Our first IDA of the 2024-25 school year was conducted on December 2nd at our middle school campus and I am happy to report it went well. When the Inspector arrived on our middle school campus, he attempted to gain unauthorized access through an exterior door, which he could not do, and was questioned by a staff member, which immediately ended the exterior door check process and required the Inspector to be escorted to the office. From there, he was escorted around the campus while he checked every exterior door to ensure they were closed and locked, as well as to make sure they all functioned properly.
After reviewing the required exterior door check documentation, he noted on his document that he was unable to gain access to the campuses and then submitted the documentation of "No findings documented by Inspector at this time" to the Texas Education Agency School Safety Team.
