CLIFTON ISD DESTRUCTION OF SPECIAL EDUCATION RECORDS
Special Education records which have been collected by the Clifton Independent School District (CISD) related to the identification, evaluation, educational placement, or the provision of Special Education in the district, must be maintained under state and federal laws for a period of seven years after Special Education services have ended for the student. Special Education services end when the student no longer is eligible for services, graduates, completes his or her educational program at age 22, or moves from the district.
After seven years, the records are no longer useful to the district, but they may be useful to the parent/guardian or former student in applying for Social Security benefits, rehabilitation services, college entrance, etc.
The official Destruction of Records Notice is hereby given that the Clifton Independent School District's Department of Special Programs/Student Services plans to destroy special education records for students who received services prior to September 1, 2017. These records are currently stored at 1000 Key Ave, Clifton, Texas 76634. Please be advised that transcripts for special education students will remain at their respective high school campuses. These records for services prior to 2017 will be destroyed in accordance with state law unless the parent /guardian or eligible (adult) student notifies the school district otherwise by October 1, 2024.
It is important to note that these records may be required for interactions with the Social Security Administration. If a student has received special education services after 2017, copies of those records are available upon request.
Legal parents/guardians or adult students wishing to request these records may do so by contacting:
